The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular to all affiliated schools, urging them to actively participate in the celebration of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025. This year, as in previous years, the focus is on promoting the significance of Yoga for overall health, well-being, and a sustainable lifestyle.

The United Nations declared June 21st as ‘International Day of Yoga, and worldwide celebrations have effectively disseminated the importance of Yoga. The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has also developed a dedicated portal (https://yoga.ayush.gov.in/yoga-sangam) with comprehensive details, digital assets, and the latest information regarding IDY activities. Additionally, ‘Common Yoga Protocol’ videos are available in 22 Indian languages.

Suggested Activities for Schools:

CBSE has requested schools to organize a variety of activities to commemorate IDY 2025:

  • Yoga Workshops and Seminars: Conduct sessions for students and teachers to encourage the practice and adoption of Yoga.
  • Mass Yoga Demonstration: Arrange a mass yoga demonstration on the International Day of Yoga itself.
  • Competitions: Organize Quiz and Essay Writing Competitions on Yoga-themes to foster interest among students.
  • Participation in Ministry of Ayush Competitions: Encourage students and staff to take part in various IDY competitions hosted by the Ministry of Ayush on the MyGov platform (https://www.mygov.in/), such as the E-Poster Competition, Essay Contest, and Yog Geet/Jingle Contest for IDY 2025.
  • Publications: Publish Yoga & IDY-specific articles in the school’s e-newsletter, bulletin, or magazine.
  • Yoga Quiz: Participate in the Yoga Quiz organized by the Ministry of Ayush in collaboration with MyGov (https://quiz.mygov.in/quiz/international-day-of-yoga-2025-quiz/).
  • Utilize Namaste Yoga App: Promote the Namaste Yoga App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=yoqatracker.np.com.yogatracker&hl=en), a health solution offering access to yoga-related information, events, classes, and physical activity tracking (step count and calories burnt).

Schools are advised to conduct these activities while adhering to all instructions issued by their respective State/UT Governments regarding summer vacations. A brief report of the activities, including 2-3 photographs, should be uploaded by schools at
