Dr Babu Ambat is Executive Director at Centre for Environment and Development, Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala, since 1993. Prior to this he has been with Environmental Resources Research Centre (ERRC), Thiruvananthapuram, and at Integrated Rural Technology Centre (IRTC), Palakkad, where he was Scientist and Deputy Director.
Babu Ambat is Ph.D in Ecology and Environment, and has been Senior Research Fellow, University of Calicut.
Dr Babu Ambat has completed 120 Research, Consultancy and Training Projects sponsored by National and International agencies like MoEFCC, DST, MoHUA, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, UNDP, Japan International Cooperation Agency, International Development Research Centre, WHO etc. , apart from many State Agencies in Kerala, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Pondicherry.
Environment
He has initiated many new programs such as Indian Environment Congress, Kerala Environment Congress, Odisha Environment Congress, Telangana Environment Congress and Kerala Renewable Energy Congress.
Schools
Initiated many activities related to Environment based and Activity Oriented Education Programs in Schools of Kerala during 1982-1993 period.
Initiated School Sanitation and Health Programs in around 2000 schools in Kerala and imparted training to nearly 4800 school teachers on Sanitation and Health with the objective of Sanitation in Schools and through Schools to the Society.

Published 11 books, 75 research reports and research papers. Edited a number of books, proceedings and magazines.

Dr Babu Ambat is experienced in editing and publication of science popular books and magazines, and Editor of “Eureka” Childrens Science Monthly Magazine for 10 years.

Dr Babu Ambat is Member and Steering of Taskforces Committees of Kerala State Planning Board, and Member ofTechnical Committees of City Corporations and Municipalities.
